Pildid Gruusiat tabanud raketist

Preliminary Investigation: Aircraft and missile used in August 6 attack on Georgia both of Russian origin

A preliminary investigation has revealed that an SU-24 military aircraft, manufactured in Russia, launched a Russian-made Raduga Kh-58 anti-radar tactical guided missile deep in Georgian territory on August 6, 2007. The aircraft breached Georgian airspace from the territory of the Russian Federation as verified by NATO standard radar records. The Georgian armed forces do not possess SU-24 aircrafts, nor do they possess this model of guided missiles.

The continuing investigation is being undertaken by experts from the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, and is now being verified by independent evaluators from the international community.

The missile was equipped with a 140-kg TNT/RDX warhead. The missile, whose NATO classification is AS11 Kilter, has the following specifications: length—4.80m; diameter—0.38m; launch weight—640kg.
